TRANSFORMATIONAL BENEFITS
Ionad Hiort | St Kilda Centre will be a hub for community empowerment. From training and employment opportunities to cultural events and partnerships, the Centre will support Uig and the wider region. By fostering engagement, education and tourism, the project will create lasting benefits while celebrating local voices and traditions.
Bidh Ionad Hiort na mheadhan airson cumhachdachadh coimhearsnachd. Bho chothroman trèanaidh is cosnaidh gu tachartasan cultarail is com-pàirteachasan, bheir an t-ionad taic do Ùige agus don roinn nas fharsainge. Le bhith a’ brosnachadh com-pàirteachaidh, foghlaim is turasachd, cruthaichidh am pròiseact buannachdan maireannach fhad ‘s a bhios e a’ comharrachadh ghuthan is traidiseanan ionadail
Community Voices
“I have lived in Uig for almost 50 years, married and built a home here, raised my children here. This is now a pivotal time for the community. When I attended Uig Primary school, there was a school roll of 76 the roll is now 21. Ionad Hiort will provide an economic and social lifeline and emphasise our heritage, both cultural and linguistic, through providing a record of our way of life and those of our forebears, passing this on to the next generation. It is a special place that deserves to be recognised as such. I believe Ionad Hiort can be a major step towards the community’s regeneration.”
Janet Macleod
Uig Resident
“Ionad Hiort would be a huge bonus to the community. As a father of four young children in GME (Gaelic Medium Education), I fully encourage projects that will teach them about Uig and St Kilda. It will boost the economy and potentially provide jobs for years to come, attracting new families and creating opportunities for our own children. I have been lucky enough to be successful in Uig without having to go elsewhere... and I hope my children can get the same opportunities.”
Peter Macdonald
Resident, Parent
“The St Kilda Centre will bring many benefits to the community... it will be a great benefit to the children in Uig as they will be able to learn about the cultural heritage of St Kilda and in turn their own heritage. Ionad Hiort will be an excellent educational tool for all.”
Tina Macritchie
Chairperson, Uig School Parent Council
“Ionad Hiort provides Uig with a transformational project, which will play a key part in the regeneration of the area... It will invigorate the community and bolster Uig’s ability to market itself on a larger stage, hopefully leading to increased in-migration.”
Sophie Brown
Uig Development Officer
“I run Seatrek which offers sightseeing/wildlife trips around the Uig coastline. I fully endorse the Ionad Hiort proposal... it will lead to an increase in tourist numbers visiting Uig with favourable economic consequences... it would be good to have somewhere visitors can go to in inclement weather.”
