Iain was born, brought up and continues to live in the village of Mangersta in Uig on the Isle of Lewis.

Following his studies in Auto/ Mechanical Engineering and Management at Napier College in Edinburgh, Iain returned home to his beloved native village.

His career largely revolved around the Marine Industry, including 25yrs in aquaculture management, gaining his RYA Yachtmaster Offshore [Commercially Endorsed] certificate to skipper boats locally and in the North Sea, and as far afield as Africa. Before his recent retirement Iain worked latterly as Assistant Harbourmaster for the Western Isles.

Iain now enjoys crofting and fishing around the local coast in his small boat. He is delighted to be able to give more of his time to local voluntary endeavours, including Ionad Hiort, which he is particularly passionate about, and he believes will be transformational for the remote and fragile community of Uig and economically beneficial to the Western Isles and beyond.
